Redbud Poultice Recipe for Poison Ivy

Redbud Poultice Recipe for Poison Ivy

Ingredients:

  • Fresh redbud leaves (or flowers)

  • A few drops of water or a carrier oil (like olive oil or coconut oil)

  • Optional: A pinch of bentonite clay or activated charcoal (to help draw out toxins)

Instructions:

Harvest and Prepare:

  • Collect fresh redbud flowers and/or leaves. Ensure the leaves are young and tender for maximum medicinal benefit. If using flowers, ensure they are fully bloomed and free from any signs of wilting.

Make the Poultice:

  • If you're using the leaves, crush them gently between your fingers or with a mortar and pestle to release the juices.

  • If you're using flowers, you can either bruise them gently or use a blender to create a paste.

  • Add a small amount of water (or a carrier oil for extra soothing) to make a thick paste. The consistency should be spreadable but not too runny. If you want to make it a little more potent, you can add a pinch of bentonite clay or activated charcoal to draw out toxins.

Apply the Poultice:

  • Once the poultice is ready, apply it directly to the affected areas where poison ivy rash appears. Make sure the layer is thick enough to cover the rash fully.

  • Cover the poultice with a bandage or cloth to keep it in place and avoid it rubbing off. You may want to leave the poultice on for about 30 minutes to an hour, allowing the herbs to work on soothing the rash.

Rinse and Repeat:

  • After the poultice has dried or absorbed, rinse the area with cool water.

  • You can repeat the poultice application several times a day to relieve symptoms and promote healing.
